Post by riahc3 » 2015/04/20 18:20:26

Is there a reason everytime I reboot I have to switch "on" my wired ethernet connection?

When you first install Centos 7, during the options screen where you select your installation source, time, feature selection, etc..

You should see a "Network Options" button on the bottom right. Select that and on the proceeding screen, click on advanced. From this screen you can make it always use this connection upon boot.

Hope this helps.

I figured it out

but

That link does NOT explain why it was changed. Thats why I wanted to know. I thought it was a security measure but it really doesnt explain anything.

The most likely answer, in my admittedly trollish opinion, is that RH no longer has people with knowledge of system administration overseeing things.

As the FAQ says, ..."somewhat inexplicably".

It wasn't a change made in CentOS 7, CentOS 6 is the same. No network by default unless your installation method was over the network.
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.
Info for USB installs on http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/InstallFromUSBkey
CentOS 5 and 6 are deadest, do not use them.
