hdd ordering issue,need help.
Hi,
i want to use eight 4TB hdds to setup mdadm raid 10,
originally,i use centos 6 to install but fail.
then,i use centos 7 to try.
i setup 8 hdds on the X10SL7-F's lsi 2308 port to install centos 7,
port 0: WD4003FZEX
port 1: ST4000NM0053
port 2: WD4003FZEX
port 3: ST4000NM0053
port 4: WD4003FZEX
port 5: ST4000NM0053
port 6: WD4003FZEX
port 7: ST4000NM0053
i check the bios,it shows the ordering well: bios.jpg
and when booting,it also show the ordering well:booting.jpg
but when installing,no matter how i did,it always does not show as my perfect ordering: install.jpg
i want to ask,how can i let the hdds ordering at centos(install.jpg) the same with my bios/booting ?
by the way, when my certain hdd get issue,
i can track which one get issue and replace it correctly.
thank you.

Re: hdd ordering issue,need help.
Why do you care about what order the drives are seen in? Use UUIDs or labels to deal with them and then you don't need to worry at all.
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

Re: hdd ordering issue,need help.
Put stickers on the drives with the UUID.
You can't depend on the position in the cabinet.

I'd go with stickers too but I'd put the drive serial numbers on them as well.

Re: hdd ordering issue,need help.
It's not advised to mix hard disk types in RAID, they should be the same make and model if at all possible. It'll still work but RAID works best if the drives match.
