Unable to install centos7

Post by figwe » 2015/07/24 15:13:23

I'm having difficulty installing uefi centos 7 on my system. whenever I choose either of the following options

1. Install centos 7
2. Check media and then install centos 7

I get the a black screen with no cursor no error message. In other words the install just hangs. My system spec is as shown below

1. motherboard: Asus rampage IV
2.cpu: intel core I7 390x
3. graphics: nvidia GTX 690

Please any help would be much appreciated.

Kind Regards

What kind of media do you use, USB or CD/DVD? If USB, how did you create the USB stick? I would recommend using dd to create the USB stick.

I used imgburn to burn the dvd. and dd to create the bootable flash drives.

I feel the problem might be in the area of the centos 7 nvidia graphics drivers. Because i'm getting a black screen with no flashing cursor. Also I've tried various media creation software all with the same results...

Try pressing tab when you see the first menu choice to Install or Check Media and Install. That should show you the current options it's about to boot with: append a space followed by the word nomodeset then hit enter.
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

CentOS 5 and 6 are deadest, do not use them.

I've already tried adding the nomodeset to the linuxefi line still with the same results.

After boot menu appears, select "Troubleshooting" and then "Boot in basic graphics mode" or how it's called.
nomodeset usually doesn't work alone, because default X driver for specific card is still used, yet most OSS graphics drivers
require modesetting to be enabled. xdriver=vesa is needed as well, which is what exactly does the Basic graphics mode.
I had the same problem with 750Ti.

I've tried adding nomodeset xdriver=vesa to boot command with no joy. Even tried the troubleshooting>install centos 7 with basic drivers still the same black screen. I'm losing the will to live now. Any other thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
