HI,

I have exactly the same problems as "mdkhvn". The cause of a problem is: Trying to identify the Product Name.../usr/lib/systemd/scripts/hp-health.sh: line 464.
And that is because hp-health script cannot recognize ESXi information.
Centos installation script where I try to install/run hp-health finds Product Name info as "Virtual Platform" instead for example "Proliant DL380 G6".

So question is how to get host data to virtual system, so that this installation could go on.

You can't install the HP SM tools in a VM - the VM wouldn't have access to the hardware. It makes no sense to do so.
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

CentOS 5 and 6 are deadest, do not use them.

Hi,

make sense, but how to install monitoring tools on ESXi? I have Proliant DL380 G6, one can only have virtual environments on it. Can somebody explain topology of how to setup monitoring enabled ESXi environment? I have been reading a lot around net, and everywhere there are only instructions how to install SMH with SNMP... But I guess there is something missing. At least I didn't saw it.

Thanks!

Pretty sure you want to ask on a VMWare forum or HP themselves.

Dgrant, you are a lifesaver. I spent many hours on the phone with HPE support and their clueless techs about my RHEL servers not being monitored properly.

Following your guide from step 4 to the end (already had all the required stuff installed, it just wasn't working right) fixed all my issues on both my CentOS 7.3 server and my RHEL 6.7 server. HPE SIM now monitors them both properly with clickable links and a functioning SMH.

THANK YOU!!
