Can't adjust screen resolution in CentOS7 VM

Post by RubinCompServ » 2017/01/23 15:36:56

I've installed CentOS7 in a virtual machine (VMWare ESXi 5.5) and run though all (800+) of the software updates. Before the software updates, I was able to adjust my resolution from the default 800x600 to 1152x768. However, when I try to adjust the resolution now, the screen either goes blank or breaks into pixels but doesn't change the resolution; hitting 'ESC' fixes the screen but it remains at 800x600. Has anyone run into this before and, if so, can you provide what you did to resolve it?

Thanks,
RCS

Someone else (somewhere in these forums) found that increasing the amount of ram for the video card allowed them to adjust beyond VGA. It was in the .vmx I think, just Google it.

Sadly, my Google-fu has failed me on this issue. I've spent hours searching (and three rebuilds) before I posted here, and I couldn't find anyone who talked about this.

EDIT: I can't argue with results, however: I poked at VMWare and found where I could increase the RAM for the video card, moved it from 4MB to 8MB, and rebooted, and the VM auto-resized to a much higher resolution!

Thanks!
