Specify a /dev/ for HDD RAID

Post by digitalquake » 2017/03/27 13:48:38

Hello
I have RAID under an Ubuntu system that is used as shared storage device.
Currently the netatalk AppleVolumes.default on Ubuntu have thousands of entries under /dev/sdb1 which is where the RAID is mounted to.

As I'm migrating to CentOS can I have the same device under /dev/sdb1 as well?

Regards

What sort of RAID? Hardware? and if so what model, or software?
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

Well, assuming that you have the same hardware on CentOS as you do on ubuntu, it should be seen and most likely assigned the same device names. However, it would be more portable if it was using either UUIDs or LABELs as those will definitely be the same.

No idea about netatalk, not something I've ever used.

No problem. i thought the was a way to assign the device to a specific /dev/partition on the device before actually mounting it, thus forcing into a dev.

Thank you
