Advice - I typed in a stupid command
Advice - I typed in a stupid command
Just looking for some advice for what I should make sure I do to minimize the effects of my ignorance. As root I executed the following commands. chmod -R 771 / Please let me know what I need to chmod to fix most of what I messed up. I run a website, have a few user accounts, and run a game server - have ip tables going, and vsftpd.
Re: Advice - I typed in a stupid command
Back up your data and prepare to reinstall. You might be able to get away with using
but that will only fix the permissions for the files/directories that are directly owned by installed packages on your system.
Code: Select all
for p in $(rpm -qa); do rpm --setugids $p; rpm --setperms $p; done
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.
