logging in as root

Post by dbwwheeler » 2017/05/23 01:25:10

Sorry if this is a basic question, but I installed centOS 7 under parallels running on my Mac. I need to perform an operation that requires I log in as root in the terminal. I have search on multiple web sites and am still at a loss. My account is Parallels and I know my password for that account. Help is appreciated!

So if you know the account name and the password, what is stopping you from logging on?
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

CentOS 5 and 6 are deadest, do not use them.

Typically CentOS asks you to set the root password during the install, didn't yours? If you don't know the root pw then you can boot in single user mode and set the password. There are many tutorials online how to do this.
