Gnome freezes on login screen
Gnome freezes on login screen
I have four CENTOS7 servers that are configured on VMWARE and 3 of the 4 are having issues with Gnome locking up at various times. All three have issues when a user attempts to log in and the userid is entered but the system won't promt for a password. I can bypass the issue by issuing systemctl restart gdm.service and this corrects the issue but I'm looking for a permanent fix. Are there any suggestions?

Post the output from rpm -q centos-release kernel
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

Re: Gnome freezes on login screen
You need to get up to date. I don't know specifically if what you're seeing is fixed but you are on 7.2 and 7.3 has been out since November last year. Since your kernel says it's the original 7.2 one that also means you've not updated anything at all in going on 2 years so you have a lot of missing bug fixes and security updates to catch up on - some of those serious ones.

Re: Gnome freezes on login screen
I understand about patching and updating but can't update to the latest version at this time. I will update at a later date. For now are you aware of any fixes for this issue?
Re: Gnome freezes on login screen
There are literally thousands of changes between the two versions.
