Redhat have just announced (better) support for OverlayFS in their 7.4 release (https://www.redhat.com/en/about/press-r ... se-linux-7). Does anyone know if it will be activated by default in CentOS 7.4 when it comes out?
Also, would it be possible to use it in 7.3 and then it automatically migrate to the 7.4 'set-up' when I upgrade to 7.4? (Will it cause issues? Or is it best to wait for 7.4 and do a fresh install or upgrade then?)
I am replacing my server soon and just wondering whether I should wait or not.
OverlayFS - will it be used by default in 7.4?
Re: OverlayFS - will it be used by default in 7.4?
I don't know about C7.4, but it's supposed to be as close as possible to updstream, so my guess is that it would be the same as in RHEL.
I seem to recall reading an article suggesting the reason for not recommending overlay (in pre 7.4) was due to SE issues. Assuming your SE config. is the same as a fresh installation, then I guess it would work.

Yes it will be a fresh install so hopefully will be set up for OverlayFS. I hope the 7.4 release is out soon

CentOS 7.4 is *supposed* to be released somewhere between Aug 22nd (next week) and Sept. 12th, though they are saying it could be a few days later due to the large nu8mber of packages.brook wrote:Yes it will be a fresh install so hopefully will be set up for OverlayFS. The best option: Wait until 7.4 is released, as it's just around the corner.

I hope it's before the end of the month as my host has offers on at the moment
