Replacing a failed /boot partition

Post by thanatos2996 » 2017/08/08 07:48:09

I have a server set up with 3 drives, one of which has failed. The failed drive contained /boot and a RAID1 partition, (The second disk has the other member of this RAID1). The 2 remaining drives have /, /home, and swap in LVM. Is there a way to replace /boot manually to restore the system? I can recover the data but I'd rather not have to set everything back up from scratch.

Yes, you can boot up a rescue environment (from Troubleshooting grub menu) and get access to your data....
You can bring up network interfaces and anaconda can search for known partitions (and depending on how complex your storage configuration is), can mount the disks for you.
I've done this with 7.[0-3] using various RAIDs and LVM (so it *should* work). Otherwise you;ll have to mount the disks yourself.
