cannot run yum update due to broken and conflicting packages

a yum update command never completes, it always ends with the following error which i do not know how to resolve:

You could try using --skip-broken to work around the problem

my uname -a command output is : Linux localhost.localdomain 3.10.0-514.26.2.el7.x86_64 #1 SMP Tue Jul 4 15:04:05 UTC 2017 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
my cat /etc/centos-release command output is : CentOS Linux release 7.3.1611 (Core)

I will appreciate any help on this issue.

CentOS 7.4 was released yesterday and this is one of the known issues documented in the release notes which you can find on https://wiki.centos.org/Manuals/ReleaseNotes/CentOS7
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.
Info for USB installs on http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/InstallFromUSBkey
CentOS 5 and 6 are deadest, do not use them.

Thank you for the concise help. Now looking at an update of hundreds of items, that says "Complete!"
