How to set Gnome as default not Gnome classic?

Post by husson » 2017/09/18 05:37:13

It's my personal pc.
When I log in with root, there is always Gnome classic as default.
How to set Gnome as default?
Do I have to choose every time?
I use Gnome because there are gtk themes I am using. And it looks like different from Gnome classic.

If you select GNOME it should remember for every boot. Are you booting to graphical by default or to multi-user and start X separately?

If you're never going to use the classic session you could uninstall that option

Code: Select all

yum erase gnome-classic-session

Thanks.
It's graphical.target.
When I input the password of root and choose Gnome to login, then I log out, and log in again by root, Gnome is default.
But When reboot and log in by root, Gnome Classic is default again, I have to choose Gnome by hand. Every reboot.
There is an exception, I use other users but root, it will remember Gnome what I choose, every time, every reboot.
Maybe this is a rule for root user.

I have a feeling that's an issue with root, as I've never seen that behavior before. I always just open up a shell and su to root when I need those privileges and don't want to use sudo.

Did removing gnome classic take any dependencies with it?

I don't believe it removes any dependencies. Maybe they make the root login behave that way to be an annoying reminder that you really shouldn't be logging into gnome as root. :)
