Configure USB GSM Modem

Post by fjsousa » 2017/10/11 16:33:22

Hello,

I'm trying to configure a USB GSM Modem on my CentOS 7 server to interact with my gammu service. My USB GSM is detected but doesn't attached to any ttyUSB. What I need to do?

Have you enabled the 'ModemManager.service'? Is it running?

How can I see that?

I guess it's running because with another USB GSM modem works perfectly...

Thank you

It's showing up as a USB mass storage device "[186403.013349] usb-storage 4-10:1.0: USB Mass Storage device detected". That means it needs usb_modeswitch run against it to flip it to modem mode and that's something that ModemManager is meant to do for you. It doesn't appear to be installed - perhaps just yum install ModemManager and see if it helps.
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

CentOS 5 and 6 are deadest, do not use them.

Hello TrevorH,

I've installed the ModemManager and it's running now.

Code: Select all

systemctl status ModemManager.service
● ModemManager.service - Modem Manager
Loaded: loaded (/usr/lib/systemd/system/ModemManager.service; enabled; vendor preset: enabled)
Active: active (running) since Fri 2017-10-13 12:17:34 WEST; 8min ago
 Main PID: 29856 (ModemManager)
   CGroup: /system.slice/ModemManager.service
           └─29856 /usr/sbin/ModemManager

Oct 13 12:17:34 zabbix systemd[1]: Starting Modem Manager...
Oct 13 12:17:34 zabbix ModemManager[29856]: <info> ModemManager (version 1.6.0-2.el7) starting in system bus...
Oct 13 12:17:34 zabbix systemd[1]: Started Modem Manager.
Now in my messages logs appears this:

Code: Select all

And with dmesg the result is the same:

Code: Select all

What I'm doing wrong?

Thank you
