Unable to install CentOS 7

Post by krizajb » 2017/10/15 08:09:55

Hi,

Yesterday I decided to install dual boot on my old HP Compaq 6715b. Windows 10 installation went smooth. I am getting stuck with CentOS 7 installation on this step: Started Load/Save RF kill switch Status of rfkill2. I was unable to find anything on google so decided to come here.

Installation is 64bit and loaded from USB created with rufus-2.17. Any ideas? Not sure how to provide any additional information, since the installation freezes.

Edit: Not sure if related but I tried disabling following devices: bluetooth, wifi, fingerprint in BIOS without any change.

The BIG question is WHY do you want to duel boot your machine?!? If you must have CentOS 7 why not simply create a CentOS 7 Virtual Machine (VM) Given that Win 10 has 4 Virtual Desktops [VD] (WOW!!! Sarcasm "ON") simply run CentOS in one of your VD. This eliminates the need to dual boot. your machine. VMWare has a VM Player available for Windows and it can be downloaded for FREE.

Erm ... sure, let me answer you that my friend. So I wish to have dual boot on my old notebook so I could experiment on getting the dual boot virtualization enabled. I would love to do that on my development notebook but unfortunately I can't afford to lose the time in case something goes wrong.

In case you are wondering why I don't have virtualization on my development notebook, because it has 4k screen and the performance is god awful. Hope we can still be friends!

Your problem is the USB made by rufus.Check the CentOS wiki, where is mentioned that either 'dd' or 'win32imager' /check the exact name in the wiki/ should be used.

Unfortunately it didn't help. Will try with dd and see how it goes. The installation doesn't stuck at the same place but doesn't finish either.

Hey krizajb, can you give us more details? like at which point this error happened, or what happened on the new instalation.

Most USB instalations presents many errors, i faced some while instaling a CentOS6.9 on a laptop, like wrong repository names, or non-complete file names (due to windows limitations). But many other errors are possible, or maybe something more specific about your HW may impact that.

Please, tell us more!

Hi I'm terribly sorry! I will give it another try today with dd and see how that goes. Will keep you updated more frequently from now on.

OK something is super strange ... used dd and the installation crashes on random places, e.g.
- Reached target local file systems (pre)
- Starting Create Volatile Files and Directories...
