VM-Level High Availability Backup Solution for KVM (Similar to VEEAM for VMWare)

Postby gpmpa » 2017/10/20 06:20:29

Hi,
Is there any VM-Level high availability backup solution for CentOS KVM environment something similar to VEEAM for VMware. Seems like VEEAM is not supporting KVM as of now.
Requirement is since my application running on VM not support high availability, I want to have back up HA solution to sync state of the application and power on backup VM incase of failure in the primary application VM.

thanks,
gpmpa

I'm not aware how VEEAM works, but I know that some people use DRBD to replicate qcow2 disks between machines.

Not sure how you'd replicate qcow images with DRBD. I use it extensively and I have DRBD on top of LVM and then raw images on the LV.

Well DRBD is just a block level replica , but the qcow2's are above that - on the FS. Depending of the setup used (Master/Slave or Multi-master) you have to pick the right File System.
As you write on the qcow2 on the master - it should be replicated on the slave where if needed you can start your KVM machine (once the master is stopped).

As I said - I have never done this before(some friends claim they do it). At work ,we are using storage based replication (but not for KVM).
