hello,
I have a machine with Centos 7 for months . it is a gnome + cinnamon desktop
Until 7.3 , there is not problem with desktop background .

Then the system is upgraded to 7.4.1708
(gnome 3.22 cinnamon 2.8 )
now the background does not change anymore . it's always a gray background
the image selected appear only for one second when I logout

I have recently upgraded another machine from Centos 7.2 to 7.4 and I have the same problem.

Any hint ?

For what matters, I also have this same issue. After upgrading to CentOS 7.4, my cinnamon desktop is messed up.

In Cinnamon Control Center go to "Desktop" settings and switch the "Show Desktop Icons" slider to "OFF".
Then you should be able to see the desktop background you have selected.

You are right , the background appears
but If i switches the "Show Desktop Icons" slider back to "ON", the control panel freeze

To me it seems like a bug in the Cinnamon version for CentOS. I used recently Fedora 27 with the most recent version of Cinnamon and this issue was not present.

From the looks of it, on my machine, when messing with the desktop icons, a notification came up with "A problem has occurred" with nemo-2.8.7-1.el7 package. There might be a bug with it and is causing the problem.

the update of epel of this morning installed cinnamon 3.6 which resolves this problem


But now I have windows with dark background . I hate this . But i am unable to change to the old cinnamon beaviour
Any hint ?
[edit] i found myself : it is the "control" section of the theme panel : with adwaita or arc control , it is ok , the background is white.
Not really intuitive, however.

Cinnamon 3.6 works fine now! Logout, Restart and Shutdown at first not working okay, but the latest update from epel-testing corrected this.
