That does absolutely nothing. you need to rename it back and change the baseurl= line inside it.
OK DONE!! After changing the baseurl=line to unstable and saving it I then ran yum update. It then updated four files:
Updating : xfce4-panel-4.12.1-4.el7.x86_64 1/8
Updating : xfdesktop-4.12.4-3.el7.x86_64 2/8
Updating : xfce4-settings-4.12.1-1.el7.x86_64 3/8
Updating : skypeforlinux-8.11.76.3-1.x86_64

Does this match what I should have expected?!? If so tonight will be TESTING night. As to xfce... not too concerned as I use KDE 4.14.8 (or whatever).

Hopefully I got it right and it WORKS!!

Hummmm one minor trivial question: How do you start it?!? Went to application launcher --> Internet --> Skype Preview --> checked About Skype and it tells me I have Skype 8.10.0.4 That sound strange.

The xfce packages are from EPEL and it's coincidence that they were updated at the same time.

If you didn't use File->Quit to exit skype, it stays running and when you started it backup you just got the old one back. Quit it and restart it.
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

Hey Trevor. A quick followup: What version of Skype are you NOW using?!? My buddy is using Skype Unstable 8.12.x.x. I upgraded *once* to Skype 8.11.76.8. Seems to be he forgot to unenable the unstable tree, so when he runs yum update it also updates Skype from the unstable branch. I'm not all that adventuresome.

The latest stable/unstable versions can be seen by running

yum list skypeforlinux --enablerepo=skype\* --showdupli --noplugins

Code: Select all

skypeforlinux.x86_64 8.11.0.4-1 skype-stable
skypeforlinux.x86_64 8.12.76.7-1 skype-unstable
