In What Directory Is Skype the Program Stored?

Post by desertcat » 2017/12/17 20:52:59

In "Too Much Holiday Cheer" I screwed up the permissions for the /root password and got an EXCELLENT reply which I am going to attempt FIRST!!

A Plan "B" came to mind: Replace /boot, /root, and /usr partitions with my backup partitions, that in *theory* should fix the problem. The one problem is I don't think my backup partitions include that includes the recent Skype install where is the actual program stored so I can copy it over to a safe place.

Thanks

You can see what files /and their location/ the rpm installed via:

Code: Select all

rpm -ql skypeforlinux

But really in that situation you just want to yum install skypeforlinux again.
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

CentOS 5 and 6 are deadest, do not use them.

Thank you both. Thankfully I did not have to resort to Plan "B" or "C", and leopard is back up and purring. You are right Trevor when you say reinstall skypeforlinux, only the unstable branch is now up to 8.13.x.y., and 8.11.76.8 works. If it ain't broke don't fix it. I do very little skyping (? skyping? now a verb? Herhehehe) and I'll end up upgrading it when I have to. My first goal for the New Year is to create some NEW backups that have the current version of Skype that I know works with CentOS 7.4.

Have a Happy Holiday Season.
