How to install Microsoft compatible fonts on CentOS 7 Core?

Post by onetech-it » 2018/02/23 06:22:49

We are running a wiki application (Atlassian Confluence) on CentOS 7 (Core only), that allows users to upload Microsoft documents and then view them in-browser. However, currently the documents are all showing in-browser as random garbled symbols, I am assuming because the Core only OS doesn't have the appropriate fonts to properly render these documents via HTML.

Is there a simple way for me to:
a) Check to see if my CentOS 7 server already has the appropriate MS compatible fonts pre-installed (i.e. Calibri, Courier, etc.)?
b) If not, are these fonts available as part of the Base or EPEL repos, or do I need to install these fonts from a third party source?

The MS core fonts can be obtained from http://mscorefonts2.sourceforge.net/ along with installation instructions for CentOS.
To check for installed fonts there is the command fc-list
