Grub Error when booting to Centos7

Post by michael_hilburt1 » 2018/04/23 01:10:35

Hi,
I am having a problem with booting into my CentOS7 every time I try to boot into it.
It gives me the following message.
This CentOS 7 is a virtual machine in vmware workstation 12.

The error I am getting is
Minima BASH-like line editing is supported. For the first word, TAB lists possible command completions. Anywhere else TAB lists possible device or file completions.

grub>
grub>
grub>
Here is the error (See centosError2.png)

After that I tried some other things using the centos7.iso but I still cant get it to boot properly (See the other screenshots)
Any help is highly appreciate because I have tried so many things!

Thanks!

Boot the rescue DVD again and chroot to your installed system then run grub2-mkconfig -o /boot/grub2/grub.cfg and see if that helps. If /boot/grub2/grub.cfg exists already, might want to make a copy first.
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

Thanks Trevor!
I followed your advice and it boots fine now.

Just wondering can you please tell me what those commands do?
And what could be though of as the reason this grub issue came up in the first place?

Thanks again for all your help!

Apparently your grub config file was missing or corrupted. You recreated it and now it seems fine. If you still have the old file you could check it to see how it was corrupt.
