The Live images have had issues in UEFI mode ..
I would suggest using the DVD image instead. No, the Live image does not have anything special that would make it better in your use case.
LiveGNOME Image Won't Boot From USB Drive In UEFI Mode
Re: LiveGNOME Image Won't Boot From USB Drive In UEFI Mode
The LIVE media is not designed for performing installations in any case. It's meant for "try before you buy" or "I need to boot this up to see...." situations.
Use the DVD1 installer or the minimal iso. The installer on those is fully functional, unlike the one on the live media which only copies itself to disk as is.

The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

Re: LiveGNOME Image Won't Boot From USB Drive In UEFI Mode
I have the same issue.
I too am using a Lenovo . However different model
MiiX320 x5 4G memory and 128 ssd internal
I used rufus to build the USB as well.
I was able to build an installer disk and have that run but like you I do not want to install onto my internal disk just yet. I want to try it first.
So I downloaded the Live image from CentOS site for gnome to try and build one. "CentOS-7-x86_64-LiveGNOME-1708.iso"
I also used rufus with default setting same as the one I used to build the installer disk.
When I look for the device in the BIOS no UEFI bootable (except internal win10) device is found.
Very interested in a solution to this problem.
I would like to dual boot this system ultimately with CentoSO and win 10 (yuck I know) but on occasion its needed.
Also will CentOS support the touchscreen function and tablet mode of this device?
I may need to open my own issue for that. Just thought I would ask.

Re: LiveGNOME Image Won't Boot From USB Drive In UEFI Mode
The LIVE media is not UEFI capable.
Look out for Rufus as an iso copier. Certain combinations of its options corrupt the CentOS isos as it copies them. The best utility is good old dd as that never tries to be clever.

Re: LiveGNOME Image Won't Boot From USB Drive In UEFI Mode
rufus does have a dd option too.
I am using a windows system to create the USB. What other sw do you recommend?
How do you create the USB with UEFI if form the command line?

Re: LiveGNOME Image Won't Boot From USB Drive In UEFI Mode
The LIVE media is not UEFI capable and I do not think you can make it so without rebuilding it entirely from scratch.
If it's just for 'try before you buy' can you not toggle your BIOS to legacy mode while you do it?

Re: LiveGNOME Image Won't Boot From USB Drive In UEFI Mode
OK now i understand. Bummer. Want to try on it before i loaded it.
May have to consider Ubuntu from what I see that should work in a try before you buy mode.
Not that i found on the bios it is a 2 in 1 tablet device. No option that i see for legacy
