Yum could not retrieve mirrorlist

Post by walt1120 » 2018/06/13 21:30:30

First I feel bad opening this thread as I know there seems to be a lot of these on here. I have tried almost all the fixes listed and still nothing. My dns is working as I can ping sites based off of name and not IP. I can even ping mirrors.centos.org. Will provide output of both.

Are you directly connected to the internet? Or behind a web proxy? Or does your ISP have transparent web proxies in the way?
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

CentOS 5 and 6 are deadest, do not use them.

"yum update all" would update a package named "all". Use "yum update" instead. But that's beside the point here.

Try curl -v 'http://mirrorlist.centos.org/?release=7&arch=x86_64&repo=os' and see what it outputs. Perhaps its output is more verbose and more useful for debugging than the output of yum.

Moved to a different VLAN in my network and it is now working. There were no firewall rules in place to deny traffic on port 80 so not sure why it stopped but once I moved the VLAN and re ip'd the interface it started working.

Thanks again!
