Cannot connect to my vserver after maintenance of server provider

I am new to working with an own server environment. But I could successfully set up my required software which is:
- PostgreSQL with the PostGiS extention
-Apache with Tomcat to have the software Geoserver running on it (it is used to generat URLs to access my database tables)

Unfortunately I recently ran into the problem that my server provider had to do some maintenance work on my VServer and since then I am not able to access it anymore. Through the GUI of my server provider I made a normal reboot but that didn't change anything. I can only access the server now through the recovery mode. And my server provider said that they cannot do anything. I should check the logs...

Anybody have any idea what might cause that problem and how to solve it?

Does your service provide have a "virtual console" for your server(s)?

From there you could see the bootup process.
