Logitech mouse fails.

Post by ostene » 2018/10/01 15:55:30

Hello,

My expensive Logitech mouse "MX Anywhere 2" will fail on Linux OS.
About 70 % of servers globally use Linux, but Logitech has not
linuxdrivers for all functions of this mouse. This is an advanced mouse
but I did not got any "manual" how to use it the right way. It will
funcion on and off so it is possible it is my fault.

I have contacted them about
this issue and waiting for an answer from them.

I will warn other Linux users for bying mice from them.

Logitech is usually a very reliable company. I currently use -- and have only used -- a logitech marble mouse because I can't use a standard mouse with my Parkinson's.

OK some questions: Some of Logitech's webcams don't work with Linux, but many, many do. Mice OTOH are rather common. A PS/2 mouse will work on any machine that has a PS/2 mouse; likewise any USB mouse will work on any machine that can utilize a USB Mouse. Just for fun run lsusb from the CLI to see if the the mouse is detected. If the mouse is detected then in theory it should run just fine. If it is a "wireless" mouse there is usually a small device that plugs into a USB port, if you forgot to plug that in the mouse is not going to work.

Have you tried this mouse with other Linux distros?

Have you tried plugging the mouse into other ports?? For this you need to check your mobo manual. You also might want to check the BIOS configuration and make sure that the mouse is available.

Finally check with other Linux users who have this particular mouse to see if they are experiencing the same problem with your particular mouse as you are.... it simply could be "Operator Error".

One last question: are you running CentOS as a host OS? ...or are you running CentOS in a / or as a Virtual Machine??

Then again if this particular mouse just came out on the market it could be that it simply is too new to be detected. Contact Logitech. I have had many, many Logitech products and with a few exceptions pertaining to webcams, they have all worked very well.

This might not be the answer you are looking for, but I'd research this particular mouse and see if other people are having a problem, or if it is just you. Stop blaming the rodent until you have proof that it's at fault.

Logitech answered me that the problem could be in
the missing drivers for the extra functions for this mouse.
It should work with "standard" HID (Human Interface Device)
drivers. HID seems to me to be very complicated and
I can not find a good text about this topic.

I was testing the mouse on different usb-ports and different
computers etc. etc. ,and suddenly it started working.

Ok, it was my fault, owing to missing "manual".

This mouse can be used to control 3 computers.
On the underneath side is a push button with which
you can select one of three channels to control.
Three LED:s indicate channel selected.
Then press the button CONNECT and the mouse is
connected to the right usb channel.
Hope this can help other users with this mouse.
I have good experiences with other Logitech mice
that has been good and relaible for years.
