Keyboard Settings won't apply, to allow the locking of a user session.

Post by priestapostate » 2018/10/14 22:51:28

I'm currently unable to cause the computer to lock as per using the 'Windows + L' key combination on a Windows system. Going to Applications > System Tools > Devices > Keyboard shows the keyboard shortcuts, but the "Lock Screen" option doesn't apply the key combo "Like CTRL + L" when I set it.
- I reloaded the system to see if the setting change would take effect - no improvement.
- I've checked online, but I don't know which file I have to edit to allow that - or what can I do to have the Settings service apply my configuration.

No matter what key combination is chosen, the setting won't take effect.
I've reloaded the system multiple times - no improvement.
I've reset all the settings to default - no improvement.
I've changed the shortcut key a few times (including using the "Alt + L" combination, to answer the response below) - no improvement.
I've performed a yum update - no improvement.
After I sent the first message, I tried out the iso install on a VM, and was able to lock the system with the VM.

Partial uname -ap readout (only thing removed is the hostname):

3.10.0-862.14.4.el7.x86_64 #1 SMP Wed Sep 26 15:12:11 UTC 2018 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Either way - thanks in advance.

You could try Alt+L.

I've tried changing the settings to "Alt + L" - then rebooted afterwards. There was no improvement to the issue.

What DE/WM are you using? On MATE the default is Alt+L.

"What DE/WM are you using? On MATE the default is Alt+L."

Gnome version 3.22.2
The default is "Super + L," which doesn't work either.

Then again, perhaps I'll try MATE...

Welp - MATE locked the system like a dream...

Thanks for the suggestion! I'll be test-driving it around the block a few times, before removing Gnome...
