Disabling CUPS service

Hello,
This should be an easy question, just wanted to get a confirmation.
Is the CUPS service only needed for a print server? Does a client that uses a network printer need to have the CUPS service running?
I tried testing a few systems after disabling CUPS to see if they could still print and they seemed to print just fine.
Before going and disabling CUPS on a bunch of systems and getting users all mad at me, I wanted to make sure they weren't going to lose other features or something by disabling the CUPS service.
This is on CentOS 7.
