Centos 7 mirror - Windows Share

Post by qba82 » 2018/10/19 17:06:19

Hi all, there is a thing.

I need Centos 7 x64 mirror iso on Windows Share, to mount it and boot from SuperMicro IPMI.

I can't find any :(

If you're asking do we have a samba share publically accessible containing a CentOS mirror then the answer is a categorical "no". No-one should ever expose a Windows file share to the internet.

To do what you want to do, you need to download the iso image from one of our mirrors using http/https/ftp/rsync/whatever and place it on your own Windows machine and share the directory it's in. You'll need to put sufficient access controls on it to stop anyone from accessing it and preferably make it available via a private LAN.
CentOS 6 will die in November 2020 - migrate sooner rather than later!
CentOS 5 has been EOL for nearly 3 years and should no longer be used for anything!

I was hoping I will avoid that, but thanks for an answer. I have no idea why SuperMicro producer used Windows share instead of simple html download....

Maybe Windows share is also samba on centos. Did you try?

With Supermicro IPMI, if you use the java console, you get "Virtual Media" where you can mount a .ISO file from your local workstation.
That's the only time a java console is better than the html5 console...
