Error patching linux machine

Hello I am using AWS system manger to run command on my on prem centos machine and get the following
1/08/2018 22:30:24 root [ERROR]: Unable to generate a yum package report.
11/08/2018 22:30:24 root [ERROR]: failure: repodata/4d48724163f6d547b4b29c33001e9700e269bd07cb07cafdf3d77052d55928d0-updateinfo.xml.gz from base:

Run yum clean all from a root command prompt
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.
Info for USB installs on http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/InstallFromUSBkey
CentOS 5 and 6 are deadest, do not use them.
