system login service failed

Post by mickey0 » 2018/11/17 22:30:30

Hello,

I am not an expert user about Linux but I was using KDE ver 4.13 (not sure). I've just logged on it few times (usually I use Mate) and today something went wrong while booting: the login manager doesn't appear no more (it seems it appears but not in the end and I have a stucked screen with lines and sometimes one of them says to type "systemctl status rsyslog.service". I tried and it says that the "system logging service" is 'loaded' but not 'Active' (result: start-limit). I am not also sure about which login manager I am using. Maybe gdm.

I really can't get much info about the problem. How can I do, please?

Kind regards.

Centos 7

Hello,

I typed

systemctl list-dependencies graphical.target

and found out I have gdm login manager. After I typed this:

systemctl status gdm.service

but everything seems ok. So I think the problem is different. I remember only now that after the last 'yum update', everytime I logged into mate a rectangular warning informed me that something went wrong with resolution screen. However, everything seeemed working fine as usual.

Any suggestions, please?

Thanks very much indeed.

Hello,

I don't know if somebody dealed with my problem but I found out using abrt-cli list that I had 4 problems:

1. Xorg server crashed
2. warning CPU : 3 PID: 473 at fs/sysfs/dir.c:31 sysfs_warn_deep+0x64/0x80
3. Xorg server crashed
4. lock.py:85: _try_read_lock: valueErorr invalid literal for in() with base 10

What do you think? I really can't find a hint to what happened.

Thanks in advance.

I would start with updating the system, then check memory and CPU (memtest/prime95).

Hello and thanks for taking my problem into consideration.

At the present I can't launch yum from tty because the connection is not working. Any way to get through this, please?

Regards.

Hello
i did sudo yum update but it updated only flash-player-plugin and chrome-stable.
However, linux seems stuck on this line:

Code: Select all

[OK] stopped switch root
[OK] started crash recovery kernel arming. Color profiles....m/cpu/intel_pstate/no_turboon permited
If I press crtl+alt+canc, two lines appear regarding intel_pstate NOT PERMITTED (in some file there a "ECHO 1" that fails). Could it be a clue?

What do you think? I also noticed that while rebooting something called "abrt" starts (sorry I am not a very expert on linux).

Please help me! Thanks in advance.

Hello again,

I have some news ( or maybe not). I typed this command (hope this can help):

Code: Select all

#system --failed
					LOAD ACTIVE SUB
dnf-makecache.service load failed failed
rngd.service load failed failed
rsyslog.service load failed failed
and:

Code: Select all

#systemctl status kdump.service
(the result is:) Crash recovering Kernel Arming
Any more hints please?

Much Love!
