I just inherited a newly build Linux box running Centos 7. It was working fine this morning, but after seeing a message in Gnome "updates available, reboot then install?" I went for it. Apparently that was a big mistake. Now I can't boot. And being a relative linux/centos newb, I'm unsure what to do next.
Four options come up:
1 - latest kernel? I get a dump with "Kernel panic - not syncing: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(0,0)
2 - previous kernel? dumps with "Error parsing PCC subspaces from PCCT"
3 - next option dumps with "Error parsing PCC subspaces from PCCT"
4 - rescue? dumps with "Error parsing PCC subspaces from PCCT"
Googling around, there seem to be things I can do if I boot using the prior kernel, but I can't even seem to do that. And I don't have a disc, though I suppose could create one from this Windows machine that I'm currently working from.
Any ideas?
Kernel panic SOS
Re: Kernel panic SOS
The "Error parsing PCC subspaces from PCCT" is not an error though, it's just informational.
Try booting one of the older kernels again only this time, when you get the grub menu, hit 'e' on the menu item for the older kernel and remove the 'rhgb quiet' parameters from the current kernel command line and then ctrl-x to boot using the amended parameters. See if anything is different.

The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

OK, did that. Now shows several entries, but hangs up at:

Re: Kernel panic SOS
Ended up reinstalling the OS.
Works now
