BIOS or UEFI on new server?

Post by tunk » 2018/12/11 14:50:51

I'm about to install a new server and I wonder if BIOS or UEFI is better.
Do you have any experience or recommendations?
A related question; the hardware raids were created in UEFI mode - does that matter if I use BIOS?
I've done a bit of web searching and didn't find any definite answers.

UEFI. No system has truly both. Their UEFI merely "emulates" BIOS as legacy option.

EFI is fun, IMHO. BIOS .. the decades with its limitations were less fun.

"Hardware RAID" in "UEFI mode"?
A true hardware RAID has its own toolset that is merely started from UEFI/BIOS.
The fake RAIDs have such too (except the really cheap 0|1 ones that have been integrated into UEFI/BIOS config).

Method of [array] creation should not affect usability.

Let me share a funny story.
I have upgraded my workstation's CPU from FX-8120 to FX-8350.
Guess what happened with my UEFI system -> it was useless. I tried to edit my UEFI menues - and nothing helped.
At the end , a reinstall was the fastest option.
