autofs fine with ssh slow to display in gnome

Post by BryanHepworth » 2019/01/21 11:40:48

Hi All

I've been using the following method for mounting users home space for a number of years,

I Have a central fileserver which houses peoples /home/bryan in my case

Other machines then automount the home directory when you log in, this up until now had worked well with ssh and text and xrdp. Xrdp now takes a while to populate the home directory when you click on it.

my auto.master has an entry as follows: -
/home /etc/auto.home

and auto.home consists of the following line

* -fstype=nfs,soft,intr,rsize=8192,wsize=8192,nosuid fileserver.domain:/mnt/data/&

I think something may have happened with how gnome displays the menu items and am unsure where to start looking. SSh into the machine works instantly.

Thank you
Bryan

Maybe I should re-phrase the question. Would anyone know what process starts when you click the home icon on the gnome desktop? I'd like to track what it's trying to do and am unsure of how to go about doing that.
