Custom Top Bar Icons?

Our computers at work are being switched to CentOS 7 (from CentOS 6) and I'm have difficulties with the new interface. One of the biggest problems I am having is with the loss of custom launchers in the top bar. For several years now I have used them extensively as a quick access to applications I use a lot. I find the new favorites bar pop up/out in the middle of the desktop (two monitor display) to be very clunky and was trying to find a way to get my top bar icons back. Is there an extension that will allow me this functionality back?

Consider running mate. I've found it fairly stable and much easier to use than GNOME.
