CentOS Linux release 7.5.1804 (Core)

GNOME-Classic:GNOME

Hi,

I have never been on a CentOS system before.

I am at a new place on a CentOS system and ]GNOME-Classic:GNOME.

Is GNOME-Classic:GNOME the default desktop for CentOS?

I can't find any GUI options for configuring the taskbars, changing the format of the clock, adding applets to the task bar, and a "new document" option to the context menu on the desktop or adding a new background color choice to the relevent menu.

Again, I am a total newbie to this system.

Is there a way to tell if all of those options have been locked down for me, or is there a different way of configuring those things in GNOME-Classic?

Thanks for any clues

Are you expecting GNOME Classic to be GNOME 2? Genuine question, it’s come up before.

GNOME Classic is just standard GNOME 3 that’s been themed to look like GNOME 2 through the use of extensions and a side theme. However, it is not functionally the same as G2. For that you would need to install MATE. Check GNOME Tweaks for extension/functionality management and Settings > Details for clock format.
