backgrounds and themes Centos server with gui

Post by ron7000 » 2019/03/22 20:23:41

  • I nstalled CentOS 7.6 and chose server with gui
  • I registered with federoa EPEL and now have all of the following installed (much I did manually)

    Code: Select all

       f22-backgrounds-base-21.91.0-1.el7.noarch
       f22-backgrounds-mate-21.91.0-1.el7.noarch
       f22-backgrounds-21.91.0-1.el7.noarch
       gnome-backgrounds-3.28.0-1.el7.noarch
       f22-backgrounds-kde-21.91.0-1.el7.noarch
       f22-backgrounds-gnome-21.91.0-1.el7.noarch
       f22-backgrounds-xfce-21.91.0-1.el7.noarch
       mate-backgrounds-1.16.0-1.el7.noarch
       adwaita-icon-theme-3.28.0-1.el7.noarch

       oxygen-icon-theme-4.10.5-2.el7.noarch
       gnome-icon-theme-symbolic-3.12.0-2.el7.noarch
       gnome-shell-extension-user-theme-3.28.1-5.el7.noarch
       adwaita-gtk2-theme-3.28-2.el7.x86_64
       adwaita-cursor-theme-3.28.0-1.el7.noarch
       plymouth-system-theme-0.8.9-0.31.20140113.el7.centos.x86_64
       sound-theme-freedesktop-0.8-3.el7.noarch
       gnome-icon-theme-extras-3.12.0-1.el7.noarch
       gnome-icon-theme-3.12.0-1.el7.noarch
       gnome-themes-standard-3.28-2.el7.x86_64
       hicolor-icon-theme-0.12-7.el7.noarch
       plymouth-theme-charge-0.8.9-0.31.20140113.el7.centos.x86_64

  • in /usr/share/backgrounds seems to be where most of everything now is

    Code: Select all

    /usr/share/backgrounds/:
    7lines-bottom.png
    7lines-top.png
    day.jpg
    default.jpg
    default.png
    default.xml
    f22/
    gnome/
    images/
    mate/
    morning.jpg
    night.jpg
    xfce/

When logged in all I know is right-click on desktop and choose Change Background.
I can then choose either Background or Lock Screen.
And under Background there is Wallpapers, Pictures, Colors.
How do I get some oh those are nice pics or wallpapers in there to select from?
Or is there a better way?
I'm somewhat content on just having GNOME working as the window thing for all users, don't want kde or xcfe except for any good pics they may have.
thanks.

When you choose "Pictures" you get to choose pics from your Pictures folder. I save my grandchildren's pictures there - so that they can be backgrounds on my machines.

are you referring to putting picture under $HOME/Pictures ?

if possible I am sort of looking for a global way to dump basic background pics so all users can see them via simplest method possible: right-click desktop change background. This would be in a work type environment, where some users are not computer savvy... what is $HOME...

so the pic has to be under $HOME/ and not $HOME/Pictures/. Why do they even organize your HOME folder with Pictures and Music/ and Downloads if they (gnome) isn't going to make use of it... this sucks.
