CentOS Linux security patch update

Post by cybersocab » 2019/04/25 14:39:50

Can you please suggest/guide how to update security patches in CentOS Linux release 7.3.1611 (Core) Server (10 no.s) hosted without GUI & YUM (command line tool) is not to be installed in the server due to internal restriction in my company.
If a suggestion is to do with CLI, then what are the things to check from the server side & link of the site where to download those security patches.
And also requesting the clear steps of installing those process to get successful.
As I am fresher to this Linux administration in my organisation, so requesting to assist in detail...
Note: Initially, we are planning to update security patches in test server then later in production server.

Thanks in Advance!

The way to update is to run yum update. If your company is removing yum then they are crippling the distro and making it unmaintainable.

You cannot update CentOS without using yum. Disabling it is stupid. Think again.
CentOS 5 died in March 2017 - migrate NOW!
CentOS 6 goes EOL sooner rather than later, get upgrading!

I completely agree with Trevor.I f they require not to use the distribution's packet manager - consider switching to another company.

The same logic applied, if yum is forbiden why rpm command is not ?

because of the threat of USB memory devices, usb cd burners, USB should also be disabled to deal with that [insider threat] attack vector

If a company really takes security seriously, then they cannot give the administration to a "fresher", can they?
