CentOS distribution with GUI

Post by aham! » 2019/06/06 18:45:51

Is there a CentOS distribution with GUI bundled in?

I have installed CentOS-7-x86_64-DVD-1810.iso on Virtual Box running in Mac OS.
Before booting, I removed the iso file from cd rom. System is running fine. Now I want to install GUI.

Using any yum command gives following error:

One of the configured repository failed (LocalRepository), and yum does not have enough cached data to continue and gives file different options to fix the problem. Tried disabling local repo but does not work.

Finally started hunting for distribution with build in GUI. But cannot find any.

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks.

That DVD includes a GUI, but I think you have to select the packages during install.
Does network work, can you e.g. ping 8.8.8.8?

Unless the network is used to perform the install, it will be disabled on subsequent boots. You need to edit the ifcfg file for the interface and change ONBOOT=no to yes. More details in the CentOS 7 FAQ on the wiki.
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

CentOS 5 and 6 are deadest, do not use them.
