boot to terminal after Virtualbox install :-(

Post by dirkme » 2019/09/13 03:21:42

I just installed Virtualbox 5.0 and got my Centos7 install some what broken.

When I boot I end up at the terminal and startx doesn't work.

I also install dkms and hoped it would do what needed to be done but I am sure i am missing some steps :-(

Mayday, help ;-))

Did you upgrade from an older version of Virtualbox ?

You can install again the Virtualbox guest additions and then run :

Code: Select all

systemctl set-default graphical.target
Last - reboot.

Wouldn't that just try to start startx?

I didn't upgrade Virtualbox, just a fresh Virtualbox install on my Centos :-(

Thanks

If you want to try it, rather than set-default, use isolate then it won't attempt to boot in a non-working GUI mode afterwards.
CentOS 5 died in March 2017 - migrate NOW!
CentOS 6 goes EOL sooner rather than later, get upgrading!
