Seeing too many errors for libc-2.17.so in dmesg.

Post by manu_leo » 2016/09/08 10:12:22

Hi Experts, I am running a script which initiates and access data at multiple places. The issue is that this script is creating core dumps and these core dump number match exactly the same number of times I see the below error. Ex :- Till now there are 6 core files which has been created and I see the below errors 6 times.

Code: Select all

98349.198649] traps: Sigma[86409] general protection ip:2b0d9a8bd56b sp:2b1345afce70 error:0 in libc-2.17.so[2b0d9a841000+1b6000]

I tried researching it but most of the times it says some issues with the memory. I ran memtest+ overnite and it passed without any issues. I ran mprime torture test and all passed.

My kernel version is 3.10

Code: Select all

uname -a
3.10.0-229.el7.x86_64 #1 SMP Thu Jan 29 18:37:38 EST 2015 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
Please help me as to how this can be resolved. Thanks for all your help in advance.

It's extremely likely to be an application bug but I can also see that you are not up to date so your first step should be to run yum update as root to get onto CentOS 7.2 plus the latest updates. To fully implement that, it will require a reboot into the new kernel afterwards.
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

CentOS 5 and 6 are deadest, do not use them.

Do you want to generate a stack trace locally? (It may download a huge amount of data but reporting can't continue without stack trace). 'NO'
('analyze_CCpp' exited with 1)
edit1:
I found the fix. I removed infinality packages and everything is fine now.
