DaVinci Resolve - log4cxx: No appender could be found for logger (Undefined)

Post by insanemachina » 2017/03/04 06:29:55

After finally installing the NVIDIA drivers and CUDA Toolkit for my GTX 1080 (an endeavour that cost me roughly 2 days to figure out, hehe) I installed BlackMagic Design's newly released DaVinci Resolve 12.5.5 which is said to support CentOS 7.3, and tried to launch it several times by it's icon to no avail, then proceeded to the terminal with the following output:

Code: Select all

[fernando@the-machine Downloads]$ /opt/resolve/bin/resolve

As far as I was able to figure out it has to do with Apache log server, but as I never needed to touch this kind of subject in roughly 10 years of funny Ubuntu-Noob Land, I am clueless as how to install the damned thing on CentOS 7 to finally get Resolve running. How do I proceed?

Running yum list \*log4\* shows that there is a

Code: Select all

log4cxx.i686 0.10.0-16.el7 base
Is that installed on your system?

I would also guess that your app will have a config file for log4cxx and that may need to be configured to point to a valid log location on your system - e.g. maybe the defaults out of the box point to a directory that doesn't exist on your system or that is inaccessible to your user or access is being denied by selinux.
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

Hello,

I am having the very same issue. Already installed both log4cxx.x86_64 and log4cxx.i686 (I am obviously running 64-bit system, but just in case...).
The error still persists - I have no idea how to config it properly and I can not find any useful instructions how to do it... Any ideas?

Thanks.

As far as I got to read on the log4cxx documentation here, this package should actually create a little server to filter logs to send them to the developers. I believe that if we had it installed when we first ran Resolve, it would set up itself, I'll try uninstalling Resolve, then installing it again.

I've never used log4cxx but it sounds like it's probably similar to log4j (java) in which case, I don't think it'll use a server. My experience of log4j is about 10 years out of date but from what I remember, it was a matter of setting up a config file which told it what to log and to where - usually a file.

On my end Resolve starts, but I get those log4cxx errors too (even though I have it installed):

Code: Select all

log4cxx: No appender could be found for logger (Undefined).
log4cxx: Please initialize the log4cxx system properly.
On top of that exactly as on SUSE it runs undecorated (and can't open videos, I'm stuck with image sequences).

Well I found a "solution".

You can download a custom .iso of CentOS 7.3 made by BlackMagic Design themselves here - http://downloads.blackmagicdesign.com/D ... OS_7.3.iso

I reinstalled OS with this one, and now Davinci Resolve seems to work fine. It already should have NVIDIA drivers set-up as well. So if you can afford to reinstall OS, then I think this is the safest bet.

Other then it being implemented with Davinci Resolve (even though you have to install it yourself - installation files in /opt/resolve/release...) I think it is just a regular CentOS 7.3. Only thing I noticed is that BlackMagic somehow managed to change the path to background, so changing it the usual way doesnt work. In case you wonder, their custom one is in usr/local/share/backgrounds, so change that file if you want a different one...

Too bad - I had to go and buy a clean DVD just for that purpose, since I have not burned a DVD in ages now. Maybe get some external CD/DVD drive? They are pretty cheap.. Or try this - http://www.allarghiamoci.it/usbcdrom/. Unfortunately, I did not have any compatible USB stick, so had to do it the old-school way.
