[Solved] 7.4 and latest Gnome question
So, I started a VLC video on my latop, and on top of the bottom 'Programs' bar containing the VLC instance, I now have a "secondary program bar" containing the same VLC icon and the "<" shrink to the left sign. Interestingly enough, VLC is the only program I have running currently that appears in it.
Does anyone know why Gnome thought I'd need (or even want) this / what their logic may have been / why they thought it was somehow useful? I wouldn't yet call it annoying, but I am trying to ascertain a 'use' for it. Foresight admittedly is not something of which I can be accused.
Thank you.

Re: 7.4 and latest Gnome question
Could you provide a screenshot? I'm curious about this.

I tried to paste in a 'screenshot' but I don't know the forum software that well.
Allow me to experiment a bit.

If you use Imgur you can copy the BB Code link and place it into an img tag like so:

Re: 7.4 and latest Gnome question
As you can see, I also opened a VM window - it appears only VLC is doing it.

Re: 7.4 and latest Gnome question
That's the GNOME version of the system tray (if you can remember what that looks like in Windows). If you install TopIcons Plus those will be moved to the Top Bar, and that tray will be gone (just restart the environment with Alt-F2 and type 'r'). Otherwise find the setting in VLC's preferences to prevent a tray icon from appearing.
Apps that have common notifications typically are ones with tray icons (VLC, Guake, Discord, Slack, Skype, etc).

Re: 7.4 and latest Gnome question
Edited VLC preferences and it's gone.
