Gnome 3.x - single click to open?

Post by taylorkh » 2018/02/16 14:50:27

I just installed CentOS 7 with the GNOME Desktop to do some testing. Since about forever I have been able to set a preference to open a file or launch an executable with a single mouse click from the Nautilus preferences. With the current version of Gnome I can NOT find the preferences for Nautilus. In a previous version I (think I) recall that preferences were accessed from a generic icon on the top panel. This appeared once an application was launched. (Or perhaps I am thinking of some version of Windoze.)

Bottom line... How do I set the single click to open option in the current version of Gnome?

Thanks,

Ken

p.s. I guess this is why I use the Mate Desktop.

To answer my own question...

A couple of folks on Linuxquestions.org recommended gnome-tweak-tool. I could not find the desired preference setting in that utility. I installed gconf-editor and found the setting under org; gnome; nautilus. What a PITA. If a Gnome 3 developer walked up to my door I believe I would punch them straight in the nose :(

Sorry I can not boot into CentOS at the moment as I am running some calculations but at least in debian/GNOME 3.26.2 the option still exists in Files->Preferences

Now as I booted into a fully updated CentOS7 I can show you where to active the desired option just by using the nautilus menu. See the screen shot below.

No more need for bullying Gnome developers ;)
