I'd wondered if they could communicate myself and would be very interested to see the replies you get.
If you're just looking for a graphic front-end for your mysql, I use phpMyAdmin. It gets installed/configured on your mysql server, then you "web page" into it.

I want to do reporting with LO Base.
OpenSuse provides a package "libre-office-base-drivers-mysql" and Base connects flawlessly.
But Base has a bug in report generation, maybe the CentOS version hasn't. Impossible to try without db connection of course.
As for the GUI, I use MySql Workbench.

I was forced to abandon workbench when it started impeding updates. I need to be current without having to 'fix/adjust' things.
