[SOLVED] Can't open terminal
[SOLVED] Can't open terminal
Hi all,
I have installed a CentOS 7 VM with VMWare few weeks ago (the host machine is (sadly) running with Windows 7 Pro). All was working all right until yesterday : i can't open terminal anymore. When i click on the icon, i have a error message : "there was an error launching the application" (which doesn't tell a lot about it...).
However, i still can access it with ctrl+alt+f4.
It is the first time i have this kind of problem and i didn't find anything about it on internet. Also i'm new with centOS, so i don't really know where i should start to solve this.
Any clues ?

Re: Can't open terminal
KDE or Gnome?
Which icon, desktop or menu?
Try to right-click the icon and select properties.

Re: Can't open terminal
Hi,
I'm using Gnome. I tried with the desktop icon, i cannot find it with the menu (even with the research tool).
I also tried with an other user, it didn't open neither.
What can i do once i know the properties ? I've attached screenshot if needed (the hidden text is my username - sorry it's all in french...).

Re: Can't open terminal
I guess you could try this as root: yum install gnome-terminal
But really it should be installed - I have no idea why it stopped working.

Re: Can't open terminal
I don't know why, but it worked.

Re: Can't open terminal
You've either mucked up your PATH or you've deleted the executable or removed the gnome-terminal package. Your screenshot of the which command shows that /bin is still listed in your PATH so that leaves the last two options. If rpm -q gnome-terminal says it's installed then run rpm -V gnome-terminal and if it lists /bin/gnome-terminal as missing then yum reinstall gnome-terminal. If it's not installed at all then yum install gnome-terminal
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.
