Hello Kanna,

The CentOS site has some good information about this very topic. Have a look at https://wiki.centos.org/AdditionalResou ... positories and https://centos.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=871 and especially here https://wiki.centos.org/PackageManageme ... Priorities

Take a look in /etc/yum.repos.d and you will find the files defining the various repos available to your system. I leave most everything as is as far as enabling or disabling portions of the repositories. I generally configure CentOS-Base.repo - all parts set to priority=1 and epel.repo - all set to priority=10.

If you use ElRepo (hadware drivers etc.) you might want to disable it and only enable if if you wish to upgrade your video driver for example. That sometimes breaks something on my system so I do it only during a point upgrade (e.g. 7.4 to 7.5).

Some software has its own repo. For example I use a program called Beyond Compare. It is supported by the vendor's repo scootersoftware.repo. Adobe is another example.

Hope this helps,

Ken
