CentOS 1804 update / Samba 4.7.1

Post by ron@raviogi.com » 2018/08/16 13:34:22

After I applied the latest update to my CentOS server, I noticed my /var mount filled up. After looking into where the space went, I saw that Samba was creating core dumps into its log directory. I then uninstalled and deleted all files pertaining to Samba and reinstalled. After that, I began adding my directives in the smb.conf file one by one until I found that once I added "security = ads" (which is needed for pbis-open and Samba integration) the core dumps started.

I tried downgrading Samba and have been unsuccessful as well as trying to compile Samba 4.8.4 from source (I dont have much experience in doing this and I haven't found the right configure parameters to get systemd integration as well as CentOS directory compatibility).

Has anyone else seen this with Samba and/or can anyone suggest a HowTo or another course of action in trying to solve this?

There was a new version of the samba packages released a few hours ago for RHEL. Those will be rebuilt for CentOS in due course and should be available soon. The new package errata is https://access.redhat.com/errata/RHBA-2018:2440 and does list at least one seg fault as being fixed. Could be worth a try when they become available shortly.
