Looking for info on tomcat 8.5 inclusion in yum repos

Post by CameronGo » 2018/09/22 03:11:42

I notice the yum repo is still installing tomcat 7. As far as I can tell there are no yum packages for tomcat 8 or tomcat 8.5 for CentOS. Is there a reason the newer 8.5 version is not available for install via the std yum repos?

I have the same problem. I have found a temporal solution for the problem until CentOS update its repositories. You can follow this steps:

https://linuxize.com/post/how-to-instal ... -centos-7/

You will need an user into sudoers group or a root user for the installation. Some hosting providers do not want to work with sudo or root users.

Please see https://access.redhat.com/security/updates/backporting/ for information on backporting of security fixes and features in CentOS and RHEL. Additionally https://access.redhat.com/solutions/2074 may also be of use.

It's unusual for new major versions of packages to be introduced in mid-product cycle. Those tend to come in when a new major version is released (and there's no mention of a RHEL 8 beta as yet).
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.
