dnf and strange problems with the kernels
dnf and strange problems with the kernels
Hello,
Firstly basic situation about my OS:
rpm -qa|grep dnf
libdnf-0.22.5-1.el7_6.x86_64
python2-dnf-plugins-core-4.0.2.2-3.el7_6.noarch
dnf-plugins-core-4.0.2.2-3.el7_6.noarch
dnf-data-4.0.9.2-1.el7_6.noarch
dnf-4.0.9.2-1.el7_6.noarch
python2-dnf-4.0.9.2-1.el7_6.noarch
python2-libdnf-0.22.5-1.el7_6.x86_64
===================
I am using kernel-3.10.0-957.5.1.el7.x86_64 or 3.10.0-957.1.3.el7.x86_64 or kernel-3.10.0-957.el7.x86_64.
When I make sudo dnf update I have following result (example with 3.10.0-957.1.3.el7.x86_64):
Dependencies resolved.
Problem 1: cannot install both kernel-3.10.0-957.5.1.el7.x86_64 and kernel-3.10.0-957.5.1.el7.x86_64
- cannot install the best update candidate for package kernel-3.10.0-957.el7.x86_64
- cannot install the best update candidate for package kernel-3.10.0-957.5.1.el7.x86_64
Problem 2: cannot install both kernel-devel-3.10.0-957.5.1.el7.x86_64 and kernel-devel-3.10.0-957.5.1.el7.x86_64
- cannot install the best update candidate for package kernel-devel-3.10.0-957.5.1.el7.x86_64

kernel x86_64 3.10.0-957.1.3.el7 updates 48 M
kernel-devel x86_64 3.10.0-957.5.1.el7 updates 17 M
replacing kernel-devel.x86_64 3.10.0-957.5.1.el7

I have installed all kernels kernel-3.10.0-957.5.1.el7.x86_64 or 3.10.0-957.1.3.el7.x86_64 or kernel-3.10.0-957.el7.x86_64 and
all work properly...
Frankly speaking, I do not understand the reason, because if I use sudo yum update, all looks O.K.
Do you know some advice?
Thank you very much in advance.

Re: dnf and starnge problems witjh the kernels
I’m not saying you shouldn’t, but is there a specific reason you’re using dnf instead of yum? I know it’s from the official extras repository, but what gain are you getting on a system designed around yum?
Cheers,
Mike

Re: dnf and starnge problems witjh the kernels
Dear Mike,
the basic reason is speed - sometime using yum I have problems to upload too large package, and dnf from this point of view
is better...

Re: dnf and strange problems with the kernels
Sounds like a bug. Please file a bug at bugzilla.redhat.com > New > Red Hat > Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7 > component dnf.
Re: dnf and strange problems with the kernels
Could you please show the complete and unedited output from the dnf command that you are trying to run. Include the command prompt where you enter the command, including the command itself, all the way through until the command prompt returns afterwards. Include all the output.
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

Re: dnf and strange problems with the kernels
Or here https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1668256 . Looks like a newer version of libsolv would resolve the issue.
