tmux, zsh, and zplugin high CPU usage

Post by Haystack » 2019/03/10 01:30:30

I'm having a bizarre issue with tmux since I switched to zsh where if I have zplugin enabled and I create a vertical split pane in tmux, the zsh process starts using 100% of one of my CPU cores. This is a big deal because before switching to zsh I pretty much constantly had tmux sessions with split panes open which I use for tasks that I leave and then come back to later.
There seem to be things other than split panes which also cause this and I can't figure out why at all..
I use several different Linux distributions on many devices and this is only happening in CentOS. I have verified it on two machines running CentOS 7, so it is not specific to one machine.
I have no idea if this is a CentOS issue or a zplugin/zsh issue, because it seems to only happen with zplugin AND on CentOS. Therefore, I have created an issue on zplugin's GitHub and am also posting here.
Link to the issue with zplugin: https://github.com/zdharma/zplugin/issues/107

Thanks in advance

# This is the default, if you make this bigger yum won't see if the metadata
# is newer on the remote and so you'll "gain" the bandwidth of not having to
# download the new metadata and "pay" for it by yum not having correct
# information.
# It is esp. important, to have correct metadata, for distributions like
# Fedora which don't keep old packages around. If you don't like this checking
# interupting your command line usage, it's much better to have something
# manually check the metadata once an hour (yum-updatesd will do this).

Note: This output shows SysV services only and does not include native
systemd services. SysV configuration data might be overridden by native
      systemd configuration.

If you want to list systemd services use 'systemctl list-unit-files'.
To see services enabled on particular target use
      'systemctl list-dependencies [target]'.

I too am experiencing high 100% CPU utilization.

Running Centos 7.6.1810 patched to latest. Running as a VMWare image.

Only remedy is to reboot.

Rebooting doesn't fix anything for me, it's a persistent problem.
